Concept

A new exhibition space for young avant-garde art was opened last year on the margins of Lineart: “The border – contemporary art zone.” This space is located in the hall, but is physically demarcated from the rest. It plays host to some twenty galleries with works by contemporary avant-garde artists. The galleries are carefully selected by a jury composed of curators and art collectors. Five individual projects were set up to add further lustre to this contemporary art core.

  1. Gigacase: A curator selects ten artists from galleries that participate in “The border,” and each shows one work.

  2. Young Ones Award: Five artists are then selected from the ten chosen for Gigacase to compete for the Young Ones Award. The public ultimately decides which of the five artists will take home the €3000 prize.

  3. B – New Gallery selection: The border offers participating Belgian galleries that have not been established at the same location for more than five years an opportunity to win a financial subsidy. A jury selects eight galleries at most.

  4. Collector’s eye: Last year, one art collector was able to propose two galleries with avant-garde art that he prized highly. These galleries were given an opportunity to present themselves on a proprietary stand within The border zone.

  5. Belgium Calling: The border’s Belgium Calling project works according to the same principle as for Lineart (cf. “Extra” projects).
